It’s the kind of wild experimentation that makes my kitchen the happiest place on earth and proves that more is always more.

Description

These show-stopping Blue Character Cookies feature a vibrant blue dough stuffed with a whole Oreo and loaded with multiple types of chocolate chips. Perfect for parties, these massive 6-ounce treats combine a soft, chewy texture with an incredible triple-cookie crunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chip cookies, chopped
  • 14 Oreo cookies (10 whole for stuffing, 4 for chopping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Chop 4 of the Oreo cookies and all of the mini chocolate chip cookies into chunky pieces, setting aside the 10 whole Oreos.
  3. Using a handheld or stand mixer, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together for 1 to 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and blue food coloring until the color is uniform and vibrant.
  5. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the semisweet chips, white chocolate chips, chopped Oreos, and mini cookie pieces by hand.
  7. Scoop 10 large portions of dough; press the whole Oreos into 5 of the portions and cover them with the remaining 5 scoops of dough.
  8. Carefully seal the edges to ensure the Oreo centers are completely hidden.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the tops are set but the centers are soft; let cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a rack.

Notes

For the best results, use a high-quality gel-based food coloring to achieve a deep blue hue without altering the moisture content of the dough. If you find the dough is too soft to handle when stuffing the Oreos, chill it in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to make the assembly process much easier.

The Candy Arsenal

To make these 6-ounce monsters, we are raiding the pantry for everything sweet and crunchy. We aren’t just making a cookie; we are building a masterpiece of mix-ins that would make any dessert lover thrilled!

  • Butter and Sugars: Use softened butter and a mix of granulated and light brown sugar to get that perfect chewy texture that stays soft for days.
  • Blue Food Coloring: This is what gives our cookies their iconic look. I recommend using a gel-based color to get that vibrant, deep blue without changing the consistency of the dough.
  • Chocolate Chip Mix: We use a combination of semisweet and white chocolate chips to keep the flavor profile exciting and varied.
  • Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies: Adding mini Chips Ahoy directly into the dough provides a secondary layer of crunch that is totally unexpected and wild.
  • Whole Oreos: These are the stars of the show, providing a hidden treasure inside every single massive cookie.
  • The Basics: Flour, salt, baking soda, and a heavy hand of vanilla extract round out this epic dough to ensure it has that classic bakery taste.

The Stuffing Process

Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 350°F and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent any sticking. Chop up about 4 of your Oreos and all of the mini chocolate chip cookies into chunky pieces, making sure to leave 10 Oreos completely whole for the stuffing phase.

Step 2: Cream the Base

Grab your handheld or standing mixer and beat the softened butter and both sugars together for 1 to 2 minutes. You want the mixture to be light, fluffy, and ready to hold all those heavy mix-ins we are about to toss in.

Step 3: Unleash the Blue

Add the egg, a generous tablespoon of vanilla extract, and that vibrant blue food coloring to the bowl. Mix it until the color is uniform and bold—this is where the Blue Character Cookies really start to show their personality!

Step 4: Fold in the Goods

Add the flour, salt, and baking soda, mixing until just combined to keep the texture tender. Now, fold in your chocolate chips, the chopped Oreos, and those mini cookie bits until the dough is absolutely loaded with goodies.

Step 5: Stuff the Monsters

Scoop 10 massive heaping tablespoons of dough onto your sheets. Take a whole Oreo and press it into five of those dough balls, then cover each one with another huge scoop of dough. Seal the edges carefully so the Oreo is completely hidden inside its blue shell.

Step 6: Bake and Cool

Bake one tray at a time for 8-10 minutes until the tops look set but the centers are still slightly soft. Let them cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes to firm up before you transfer them to a cooling rack.

For the ultimate visual drama, I love to press a few extra chocolate chips and a piece of Oreo onto the top of the dough balls right before they go into the oven. If you want to master the art of the thick, bakery-style base, check out my crumbl cookie recipe copycat for some deep-dive secrets on dough structure. To ensure your cookies don’t spread too thin, make sure your butter is softened but not oily, and always use a kitchen scale to get those 6-ounce monster portions exactly right. Go Even Bigger

Who says you have to stop at Oreos? Try stuffing these with a peanut butter cup for a salty-sweet twist, or even a mini brownie for a cookies and cream cookies hybrid that will blow your mind. You can also swap the blue coloring for neon pink or green to create a different “character” vibe for themed parties or holidays. If you want to go even bigger, use double-stuffed Oreos for the center to get an even thicker, creamier middle that provides a surprising texture in every bite.

Party Mode

Serve these warm for the best “ooze” factor where the chocolate chips are melty and the Oreo center is slightly softened. They look incredible stacked high on a tiered dessert stand or served individually in colorful napkins for a birthday party. If you’re hosting a big holiday bash, these blue beauties look stunning next to a plate of italian christmas cookies to add a pop of modern color to the table. Don’t forget a giant glass of cold milk for the ultimate dunking experience!

Baking should always be an adventure, and these Blue Character Cookies are the ultimate prize for anyone brave enough to go big and break the cookie rules. They are loud, blue, and stuffed to the brim with everything that makes life sweet!
